E-Lyte Innovations GmbH and PCC Thorion GmbH, a subsidiary of the PCC Group have entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) for the further development, validation, and commercialization of PCC Thorion’s new Scionb electrolyte additive platform. The collaboration aims to develop high-performance electrolyte solutions for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries that meet the increasing demands of modern energy storage systems in terms of performance, safety, and lifetime.
The Scionb product line comprises several novel electrolyte additives that originated from an extensive research and development program and will now be further developed toward market readiness through this strategic partnership. The additives address key challenges in next-generation battery technologies, including improved fast-charging capability, enhanced cycle life of silicon-rich anodes, stabilization of high-nickel cathodes, and the reduction of unwanted gas generation.
Under the Joint Development Agreement, E-Lyte will be responsible for the development, formulation, and manufacturing of customer-specific electrolytes based on Scionb additives. Together, the partners will create advanced electrolyte systems and validate their performance under application-relevant conditions in various cell configurations. The evaluation program covers both lithium-ion and sodium-ion technologies and targets applications in the automotive (EV), industrial, and stationary energy storage (BESS & ESS) sectors. The resulting performance data and insights will serve as the foundation for further product optimization, industrial scale-up, and customer-specific validation and development programs.
Partnership Statements
Dr. Ralf Wagner, CEO of E-Lyte Innovations GmbH:
“The next generation of battery cells will not be defined solely by new active materials, but increasingly by the performance of the electrolyte. Scionb additives address several of today’s most critical challenges in advanced cell chemistries simultaneously, ranging from fast-charging capability and stabilization of silicon-rich anodes to the control of aging mechanisms. By combining these additive technologies with our expertise in electrolyte development, we are creating the foundation for solutions specifically tailored to the requirements of future commercial-scale applications.”
Enrico Roicke, Managing Director of PCC Thorion GmbH:
“With Scionb, we have developed a new generation of electrolyte additives capable of addressing several key challenges in modern battery cells. Through our collaboration with E-Lyte, we can significantly accelerate development and provide customers with application-oriented electrolyte samples at an early stage. This represents an important milestone on the path toward commercialization of our technology.”
