Funded project EXTREME

The objective of the EXTREME project is to develop innovative supercapacitors (EDLCs) that enable high operating voltages of >3.0 V as well as operation at elevated temperatures (>70 °C). Within the subproject “Production and Characterization of Optimized Electrolytes,” the focus is on optimizing electrolyte formulations to meet these increased voltage and temperature requirements.

To enhance the stability of the electrolyte with respect to both voltage and temperature, various co-solvents and conducting salts will be used, and targeted electrolyte additives will be incorporated. The produced electrolytes will be investigated both physically and electrochemically and iteratively improved.
